Domain Names & Hosting

What is a domain name?

domain_names_image

A domain name is the address of your online business, just as your street address is the location of your physical business.

In Australia the most common domain name ends in .com.au
For example: www.pilbarawebdesign.com.au

The “com” means commercial and the “au” means your business is registered in Australia.

The “www” stands for World Wide Web, which is where your business is located (hosted)

The Prerequisites for a “.com.au” are:
You must either have a registered ABN number (Australian business number) or have a registered ACN (Australian Company number)

There is a fee to register your domain name, which is not unlike registering your business name see the Services Page for the costs.
More information on Australian domains names can be found by clicking on the below link.

What is hosting?

hosting

Your website needs to be found in the world wide web (www) and so it needs to be parked in cyberspace, this is called hosting, think of it as a resting place a bit like a car in a car park.

When someone goes to a search engine such as Google and types in a few search strings IE "pilbara business directory" your website will then be retrieved from its hosting place and served onto the Google search results page.

There is a hosting fee to have your website parked see the Services Page for the costs.
